New Times Require New Teaching Approaches

This summer, NewTechKids taught a new round of computer science bootcamps to children ages 7-12. We've been reviewing how and what we teach and how to engage a broad range of students, including kids with no previous exposure to computer science education, girls, minorities and children from low-income communities. We concluded that in addition to teaching computational thinking skills and computer science concepts, our job is to inspire kids and to cultivate curiosity about technology:

NewTechKids Returns to Leonardo da Vinci School

NewTechKids is pleased to have been invited back to teach computer science lessons at Leonardo da Vinci School, a primary school in Amsterdam. We are teaching two, 21st Century Skills Clubs: one for students ages 7-9 and one for students ages 10-12. The Club's 10-week program of weekly lessons will provide students with a strong foundation to understand core computer science concepts and design and program technology solutions. Bringing Themes and Tech Literacy to Computer Science Ed

The way that computer science education is promoted to primary school-aged children can make all the difference. NewTechKids learned this lesson during our latest round of after-school computer science bootcamps which ran from January - March 2017. New Teaching Tools: Arduino and Micro:bits

This December, NewTechKids added Arduino as a new teaching tool during our 'Discover Computer Science' bootcamp for 10-12 year olds. Kids received multiple lessons as an introduction to Arduino. With its open source platform and active community of developers, Arduino is a great teaching tool. NewTechKids joins ‘Coding for Amsterdam’ Project

NewTechKids is one of the partners chosen for the City of Amsterdam’s ‘Coding for Amsterdam’ project which will bring coding lessons to students in groups seven and eight in Amsterdam primary schools. From September – December 2016, NewTechKids is teaching unplugged coding lessons (involving no computers or technology) at Dutch and international schools.
