NewTechKids is een academie in Amsterdam die technologie onderwijs biedt, gericht op het aanspreken van het probleemoplossend en innovatieve vermogen van kinderen. Tijdens onze Engels- en Nederlandstalige programma’s leren basisschoolkinderen de fundamentele concepten achter computertechnologie, programmeren en informatie in het digitale tijdperk. Gadgets, apps, software en hardware zijn aan continue verandering onderhevig, maar de kernbegrippen erachter blijven hetzelfde. Ons team van technologie docenten en innovatie specialisten begeleiden kinderen bij het verwerven van kennis en vaardigheden die nodig zijn voor het ontwerpen, programmeren, testen en creëren van dingen die voor hen belangrijk zijn. Over ons
NewTechKids, gevestigd in Amsterdam, stelt zich de missie om alle basisschoolleerlingen te bedienen met techniek en informatica onderwijs. NewTechKids ontwikkelt daartoe lesplannen met pedagogische richtlijnen, specifieke onderwijsbenaderingen en efficiënte strategieën voor klassenmanagement binnen het basisschoolprogramma én als naschoolse activiteit.
We leren kinderen in het basisonderwijs (leeftijd 4-12) over technologie door middel van rollenspellen, design en prototyping activiteiten. Tijdens speelse workshops zoals ‘Robots die de wereld redden van groen slijm’ en ‘Jacht naar de piratenschat van binaire code’ ontdekken kinderen de fundamentele concepten achter de technologie, computerwetenschap en innovatie, zoals programmeren, systeemdenken, algoritmen, design en prototyping. Gadgets, apps, software en hardware veranderen voortdurend, maar deze kernbegrippen niet.
Onze programma’s bereiden kinderen voor op een toekomst als innovator en ondernemer. We maken gebruik van lesmaterialen die variëren van ‘geen-tech’ (pen en papier) tot ‘veel-tech’ (LEGO Mindstorm robotpakketten en Kano DIY computers) om kinderen bloot te stellen aan een verscheidenheid aan technologische leermiddelen en innovatieve processen ruim voordat ze naar de middelbare school gaan.
NewTechKids programma’s veranderen kinderen niet in master-programmeurs en leren ze geen specifieke technische vaardigheden. Onze pedagogie, curriculum en lesplannen bieden kinderen een sterke basis om technologie te begrijpen: hoe werkt het, waarom werkt het en hoe kan ik die manier van denken inzetten om nieuwe, innovatieve oplossingen te bedenken? Kinderen leren bij ons om vaardigheden op meta-niveau te ontwikkelen: probleemoplossend, kritisch en logisch denken.
Onze lessen worden gegeven in Engels en Nederlands. Het technologie en informatica-jargon is gebaseerd op het Engels. Wij helpen kinderen dit jargon te hanteren als Engels niet hun moedertaal is.
Onze benadering
We combineren drie magische ingrediënten in onze programma’s. Technologie en informatica onderwijs helpen kinderen de kernbegrippen te begrijpen die gelden voor alle vormen van technologie. Informatica-vaardigheden stelt kinderen in staat belangrijke theorieën te begrijpen, feitelijke kennis te verkennen en nieuwe ideeën te ontwikkelen door het beoordelen en verbinden van verschillende soorten informatie. Innovatie processen helpt kinderen om hetgeen ze hebben geleerd, om te zetten in hun eigen uitvindingen. Tijdens onze programma’s raken kinderen steeds meer op hun gemak met het experiment, design, het testen en programmeren; allemaal essentiële aspecten van het innovatieproces.
Als vrouwelijke ondernemers zetten we ons bovendien in om de technologie-kloof tussen jongens en meisjes te dichten door pedagogie, onderwijs benaderingen en curricula te ontwikkelen die alle kinderen stimuleert vanuit concepten en technologie gerelateerde oplossingen te denken.
