NewTechKids is pleased to announce that in 2020, we are expanding our line up of programs focused on teaching kids ages 7-12 about technological innovation.
We’ve hired new teachers with different specializations in order to continue developing innovative ways to teach kids ages 4-12 about computer science, programming and design while helping them develop critical thinking about technology and its implications.
Some of the big changes:
- We will introduce kids to basic, on-screen programming using the Scratch programming language developed by MIT. Kids will brainstorm and design mockups with art materials before transferring their ideas for simple animations and games to Scratch.
- We will go deeper into programming, robotics and design by teaching kids about data: how to present it and how to capture it.
- We will expand our collaboration with the Amsterdam Public Library by organizing more joint computer science/programming/digital fabrication bootcamps during the Dutch school holidays in partnership with its Maakplaats 021 maker education initiative. During these bootcamps, kids will get hands-on experience with programming and robotics as well as designing with 3D modelling software, 3D printing and digital engraving. By combining these areas, NewTechKids has been able to increase the participation of girls in these programs to almost 45% of all students.
