NewTechKids will be giving a teacher training workshop focused on introducing digital literacy to primary school students.
Since January 2023, NewTechKids has been teaching digital literacy programs at schools and our after-school programs. We started teaching these classes at OBS Wereldwijs, a primary school in Amsterdam Southeast which has been designated ‘Excellent’ by the Dutch government in both 2019 and 2022.
Our curriculum includes how technology systems work, the use of digital productivity tools and apps, online safety, generative AI as well as critical thinking and the ethics of technology.
Workshop Description: NewTechKids will give participants a peak into how its teaching team is teaching digital literacy during school and after-school activities across Amsterdam.
Our workshop will begin with an explanation of how we define digital literacy and identify the related skills that children need to fully participate as tech-ready students and digital citizens. We’ll then discuss curriculum and lesson scaffolding before providing participants with a hands-on class exercise: designing a 5-lesson digital literacy curriculum module.
The workshop will be taught by Deborah Carter, NewTechKids’ Founder, who led the development of our curriculum and lessons, along with a classroom teacher from Wereldwijs primary school who assisted us with our lessons.
Participants: This workshop is for teachers and school directors who want to understand what digital literacy is, need guidance on how to introduce related classes and are looking for innovative teaching approaches.
When: The workshop will take place on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 16:00 – 17:30.
Where: OBA Centraal near Amsterdam Centraal Station, Prinsenzaal, 6th floor.
A maximum of 20 directors and teachers can participate in this workshop so register asap.
