Picture the scene. You are wearing a cardboard robot head and doing your best robot impression to teach a group of Dutch and English-speaking kids technology concepts such as programming, automation, input-output and parameters. You didn’t originally know how to teach these concepts but you planned the lesson with a certified technology teacher, did some online research to prepare for the class and planned activities to actively engage the children.
Does this scenario a) make you run for the hills, b) throw you into a complete panic but at the same time, pique your interest or c) yell ‘sign me up!’
If the answer is b or c, read on. (If you chose a, sorry but we don’t think we’re the right team for you.)
NewTechKids is a technology education academy which offers after-school programs in Amsterdam. We organize after-school programs which teach primary school children the fundamentals of technology and programming in order to transform them from passive technology users into passionate inventors.
We are looking for curious, committed freelance teachers to help develop our technology education academy. Our ideal candidate is a recent graduate of a teacher training institute who has a solid understanding of pedagogy, curriculum development and challenge-based learning in the context of primary school children.
While familiarity with technology is a plus, it’s not our main concern. Our priority is to find teachers who see themselves as guides and mentors who can help children discover how technology works, why it works and how to use it to create interesting things. This means that you’re not afraid to experiment, fail, do extra research and challenge kids to figure things out themselves, in teams.
We prefer teachers who are comfortable speaking in both Dutch and English.
If you like our approach and can thrive under these conditions, please let us know who you are. Contact Deborah Carter, NewTechKids Founder, at dcarter(at)newtechkids.com
