Theme: Robots Playing Games

During this NewTechKids bootcamp of 4 weekly workshops held at the Amsterdam Public Library near Centraal Station on Thursdays, kids ages 8-12 will turn traditional games into robot games. Using LEGO robotics kits, kids ages 8-12 will turn catapults, dominos and pinball into robot-powered games before inventing their own game with a point system.

Kids will dive into designing, building and coding using LEGO Mindstorms and art supplies. They’ll learn about design concepts (resources, requirements, testing, iteration, best practices) and computer science concepts (coding, algorithms, commands, loops, sequence, iteration, if-else logic, etc.).

Kids will develop creativity and innovation skills by designing, building and coding a series of robots and tech prototypes based on their own ideas. Kids will dive into building and visual programming using LEGO Mindstorms and art supplies. They’ll learn about design concepts (resources, requirements, testing, iteration, best practices) and computer science concepts (coding, algorithms, commands, loops, sequence, iteration, if-else logic, etc.).

During each class, they’ll watch short films and discuss technology before completing challenges in pairs and presenting their prototypes.
