Late Fall 2021 Tuesday Bootcamp: 6 workshops (8-12 yrs.)

(Bilingual camp taught in a combination of Dutch and English.)

Theme: Bringing Favourite Kids Books & Films to Life (with Robots)

During this NewTechKids bootcamp of 6 weekly workshops on Tuesday afternoons at the Amsterdam Public Library, kids ages 8-12 will use their imaginations to bring the most popular children’s books and films to life by inventing robots based on the stories. Books and films will include “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “Harry Potter”, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and others.

Kids will dive into building and visual programming using LEGO WeDo and/or LEGO Mindstorms and art supplies. They’ll learn about design concepts (resources, requirements, prototyping) and computer science concepts (coding, algorithms, commands, loops, sequence, iteration, if-else logic, etc.).

During each class, they’ll discuss a book or film before completing team-based challenges in pairs and presenting their prototypes.

This bilingual bootcamp will be taught by a native Dutch-speaking, professional teacher with specialised training in computer science. The curriculum and classes are based on NewTechKids’ pedagogy which focuses on concept-context learning and the use of tangible learning tools.

Classes will take place every Tuesday from 16:15 – 17:45 on the following dates:

– November 9, 16, 23, 30
– December 7, 14

Our bootcamp is ideal for children with no previous exposure to design and computer science and those who have previously participated in NewTechKids programs.

A minimum of 12 students is required to offer this program. Registrants will be notified 3 days prior if the program is cancelled and a full refund will be provided.
