Fall 2017 Vacation CS Bootcamp: 7-12 years (5 daily workshops)

Join NewTechKids’ Automation Nation Vacation bootcamp! The bootcamp is organised in partnership with Maakplaats 021, the Amsterdam Municipal Library’s initiative to offer Maker spaces in its branches.

During this computer science bootcamp of five (5) daily workshops during the Fall 2017 school vacation, kids ages 7-12 will become automation experts responsible for creating technology prototypes which allow computers and robots to do things normally done by humans.

In plain English, they’ll be designing and programming robots to solve challenges and do everything from playing sports to running a factory and managing a farm.

NewTechKids will teach them about automation and robotics and how they are transforming the world around us. We’ll also explain important computer science concepts such as programming, technology systems and design and rapid prototyping. Our bootcamp will blend class discussions about the advantages, disadvantages and implications of technology with hands-on activities focused on designing, building and programming technology prototypes. Tools used include Ozobots, LEGO Mindstorms and good ol’ pen and paper and arts and crafts supplies.

To help them develop their collaboration skills, they will work in small teams for most of the activities.

This bootcamp is ideal for children with no previous exposure to computer science and those who have previously participated in NewTechKids programs. All of our programs are taught by professional teachers with specialised computer science training.

Workshops will take place daily from 10:00 – 13:00 at OBA Centraal (Amsterdam Municipal Library near Centraal station) in the Junior Lab (basement) on the following dates:

– October 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27, 2017

This bootcamp is designed to help kids develop computational thinking skills: adopting thought processes required to solve problems and create solutions using computers. NewTechKids promotes bilingual education and our workshops will be taught in a combination of Dutch and English.

A minimum of 15 students is required to offer this bootcamp. Registrants will be notified one week prior if the bootcamp is cancelled and a full refund will be provided.
