NewTechKids is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Leonardo da Vincischool, a primary school in Amsterdam, to deliver technology and programming courses to its students. The programs will begin in mid-August after the summer holidays.

Groups 1 and 2: NewTechKids Robot Boogie Bootcamp
Students will be introduced to concepts such as computational thinking, design, commands and systems thinking. They’ll learn the basics behind programming and automation through crafts, games, and physical activity. Taught in Dutch.

Groups 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8: NewTechKids Discover Computer Science
Students will discover basic concepts of computer science and the thinking and problem-solving behind it. They’ll learn via a mix of pen and paper activities, games and technology tools such as LEGO Mindstorms and Raspberry Pi DIY computer kits. Taught in English and Dutch.

Leonardo da Vincischool takes an innovative approach to its extracurricular activities. Instead of hosting programs after school, programs are held during lunch time (12:00 – 13:30). Students participate in programs (chess, sports, painting, English, coding, etc.) four times per week.

Bouwien van Weringh, Director of the Leonardo da Vincischool said, “Teaching technology and computer science to primary school students will become mandatory in the Netherlands in 2020. Working with NewTechKids will allow us to prepare our students and our teachers. We also support NewTechKids’ focus on teaching the thinking and problem-solving skills associated with technology education along in tandem with the coding skills.”
