‘Systems Thinking & Hardware’ Bootcamp: 10-12 Years

Why do most people buy new mobile phones, computers and tablets yearly or every few years? Why do device batteries lose their power over time? Why is it so difficult (and expensive) to replace a broken phone screen?

During this bootcamp of four weekly workshops, NewTechKids will challenge kids ages 10-12 to shift from only using devices to thinking about how these devices work as systems and what their designs mean in terms of factors such as repairability, upgrades and sustainability.

Kids will disassemble computers and mobile phones, compare and contrast these devices and their main parts, and experience design and rapid prototyping based on functionality and user requirements.

The bootcamp is facilitated by Codestarter, an initiative funded by Google in co-production with Platform Bèta Techniek and Science Center NEMO.

Workshops will take place on Fridays from 16:00 – 17:30 on the following dates:

– Friday, February 5
– Friday, February 12
– Friday, February 19
– Friday, February 26

A minimum number of 15 students is required to offer this bootcamp. Registrants will be notified one week prior if the bootcamp is cancelled and will receive a full refund.

There will be no workshops on national holidays or during Dutch school vacations in North Holland (Amsterdam).
