Spring 2018 Computer Science Bootcamp: 7-12 years (Thurs.)

Challenge: re-invent the wheel and other common items using design and programming

During this computer science bootcamp of eight (8) weekly workshops, kids ages 7-12 will try their hand at re-inventing common items such as wheels, catapults and other common items.

They’ll become technologists, designers and programmers who use visual programming, robotics and their imaginations to automate something each class.

According to NewTechKids’ pedagological framework, kids learn best with tangible objects. During this bootcamp, they will receive hands-on experience with Ozobots, littleBits and LEGO Mindstorms.

In the process, kids will learn about core computer science concepts such as automation, programming, algorithms, loops, input/output, parts working together, feedback, sequences, data (numbers and Booleans), functions, variables and collections, event handling, design and testing.

To help them develop their collaboration skills, they will work in small teams for most of the activities.

This bootcamp is ideal for children with no previous exposure to computer science and those who have previously participated in a NewTechKids programs.

Workshops will take place weekly on Thursdays from 16:15 – 17:45 on the following dates:
– May 31
– June 7, 14, 21, 28
– July 5, 12, 19

This bootcamp is designed to help kids develop computational thinking skills: adopting thought processes required to solve problems and create solutions using computers. NewTechKids promotes bilingual education and our workshops will be taught in a combination of Dutch and English.

A minimum of 15 students is required to offer this bootcamp. Registrants will be notified one week prior if the bootcamp is cancelled and a full refund will be provided.
