Programming and Lego Mindstorms Bootcamp: Groups 6, 7 and 8
Many kids are already experienced with coding in Minecraft, Scratch and other games and apps. During this bootcamp taught by NewTechKids and offered via Ijsterk, an after-school program provider in Amsterdam, kids were introduced to the main concepts which explain why and how programming works the way it does.
Kids discovered programming and automation through a mix of games, pen and paper activities and three classes devoted to learning to program LEGO Mindstorm robots. Concepts covered included programming, automation, commands, variables, loops, feedback systems, design and testing, and algorithms. Classes were taught in English and Dutch.
During the workshops, children worked in small teams to program LEGO Mindstorms robot kits supplied by NewTechKids.
