‘Program a LEGO Mindstorms Robot’ Workshop: 7 – 12 years

NewTechKids wants to prepare kids to invent the next iPad and Minecraft, not just use them. In order to become innovators who fix problems and develop better solutions, kids need to understand how computers work and how programming fits into the equation.

During this NewTechKids workshop, kids aged 7-12 will learn about the concepts and logic behind programming by working in teams to program a LEGO Mindstorms robot. This workshop will take kids through a design, programming and testing process to showcase the power of programming.

Programming and technology concepts covered include systems thinking, algorithms and sequences, requirements, automation, variables, input-output, feedback, loops, design and testing.

Kids aged 7-12 are welcome to attend this workshop. We will teach the theory and concepts to the whole group but then divide the class into two groups (7-9 year olds and 10-12 year olds) to complete different activities. One teacher will be on hand to assist each age group.

Children will work individually and in small teams using LEGO Mindstorms kits provided by NewTechKids. The workshop will be taught in a combination of English and Dutch. A minimum number of students  is required to offer the workshop.
