NewTechKids’ Summer Bootcamp: 7-12 years (Aug. 7-11, 2017)

(Please note: OBA’s Web site lists an incorrect timeframe for our bootcamp. The correct timeframe is 10:00 – 13:00.)

Challenge: build the city of your dreams!

During this week-long, computer science bootcamp of five (5) daily workshops, kids ages 7-12 will design their ideal city along with prototypes of the technology needed to run it.

They’ll tackle questions such as: How can we solve traffic problems? What new vehicles can be developed to transport people? How can we conserve energy? How can we keep people safe?

In the process, kids will learn about core computer science concepts such as automation, programming, algorithms, loops, input/output, parts working together, feedback, sequences, data (numbers and Booleans), functions, variables and collections, event handling, design and testing.

NewTechKids will also inspire kids by showcasing examples of technology which is re-defining how we experience living in cities.

Kids will explore these concepts through a mix of pen and paper exercises, arts and crafts, games, programming Ozobot robots, and designing and programming with Micro:bits and LEGO Mindstorms. To help them develop their collaboration skills, they will work in small teams for most of the activities.

Workshops will take place daily from 10:00-13:00 on the following dates:
– August 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 2017

The bootcamp is ideal for children with no previous exposure to computer science and those who have previously participated in NewTechKids programs.

This bootcamp is designed to help kids develop computational thinking skills: adopting thought processes required to solve problems and create solutions using computers. NewTechKids promotes bilingual education and our workshops will be taught in a combination of Dutch and English.

Snacks and drinks will be provided.

A minimum of 15 students is required to offer this bootcamp. Registrants will be notified one week prior if the bootcamp is cancelled and a full refund will be provided.
