‘Discover Computer Science’ Bootcamp: 7-12 years

How will programming languages look like in the future? There is no guarantee that today’s languages, such as Java, HTML and C++, will be used in a few years time. But the core concepts and the ways to solve problems behind every programming language will still apply.

During this NewTechKids bootcamp of eight weekly workshops, kids aged 7-12 years old will learn the core concepts which power computer science and programming. Concepts covered will include input/output, parts working together, feedback, computational thinking, algorithms and sequences, data: numbers and Booleans, variables and collections, loops, event handling, and design and testing.

Kids will explore computer science and programming through a mix of pen and paper exercises, role-play games, building a DIY computer kit, programming LEGO Mindstorms robots, and other activities.

Kids aged 7-12 are welcome to attend this bootcamp. We will teach theory and concepts to the whole group but then divide the class into two groups (7-9 year olds and 10-12 year olds) to complete the hands-on activities. One teacher will be on hand to assist each age group.
