Visual Programming and LEGO Mindstorms: 10-12 year olds

We have no idea what programming and coding will look like in the future. Some technology experts predict that there will be a shift to visual programming. Numbers and letters will be replaced by graphics.

During our bootcamp of ten (10) weekly workshops, kids ages 10-12 will be introduced to visual programming and the logic, patterns and composition behind it. They’ll discover key computer science concepts such as data (numbers and Booleans), variables and collections, loops, event handling, design and testing. Kids will learn how to apply these concepts to solve problems through pen and paper lessons, games and designing and programming LEGO Mindstorms robots.

The workshops will be taught in a combination of English and Dutch. Children will work in small teams with LEGO Mindstorms kits provided by NewTechKids.

The bootcamp will be held in the computer lab at Het Claverhuis, Elandsgracht 70, in de Jordaan.

Workshops will take place on Thursdays from 16:00 – 17:30 on the following dates:
– January 21, 28
– February 4, 11, 18, 25
– March 10, 17, 24, 31

There will be no workshops on national holidays or during Dutch school vacations in North Holland (Amsterdam).

A minimum number of 15 students is required to offer this bootcamp. Registrants will be notified one week prior if the bootcamp will be cancelled and will receive a full refund.
