‘Build a Computer’ Workshop: 7 – 12 years

NewTechKids wants to prepare kids to invent the next iPad and Minecraft, not just use them. In order to become innovators who fix problems and develop better solutions, kids need to understand how computers work and how programming fits into the equation.

During this NewTechKids workshop, kids aged 7-12 will learn what makes up a computer in terms of parts and how these parts work together to handle programming. Kids will work in small teams to assemble a Kano DIY computer kit and then play games to understand how basic programming works on computers.

Programming and technology concepts covered include systems thinking, programming, requirements, variables, commands, input, feedback systems, and design.

Kids aged 7-12 are welcome to attend this workshop. We will teach theory and concepts to the whole group but will divide the class into two groups (7-9 year olds and 10-12 year olds) to complete the hands-on activities. One teacher will be on hand to assist each age group.

Children will work individually and in small teams to build Kano DIY computer kits provided by NewTechKids. The workshop will be taught in a combination of English and Dutch. A minimum requirement of students  is required to offer the workshop.
