‘Discover Computer Hardware’ Workshop: 7 – 12 years

NewTechKids wants to prepare kids to invent the next iPad and Minecraft, not just use them. In order to become innovators who fix problems and develop better solutions, kids need to understand how computers work and how programming fits into the equation.

During this NewTechKids workshop, kids aged 7-12 will learn what goes on under hardware: the main components of computers and how they interact to solve problems and execute programs. Kids will design their own computers and tear apart old computers and laptops to see firsthand how they work.

Programming and technology concepts covered include systems and systems thinking, requirements, abstraction as well as design.

Kids aged 7-12 are welcome to attend this workshop. We will teach theory and concepts to the whole group but then divide the class into two groups (7-9 year olds and 10-12 year olds) to complete the hands-on activities. One teacher will be on hand to assist each age group.

Children will work individually and in small teams. Workshops will be taught in a combination of English and Dutch. A minimum requirement of students  is required to offer the workshop.
