NewTechKids is pleased to continue its collaboration with the Amsterdam Public Library’s Maakplaat 021 initiative to bring a combination of computer science, programming and digital fabrication (3D printing, laser cutting, etc.) education to kids.

Next week, we’ll be hosting a special Fall School Holiday (Herftsvakantie) camp from October 21-25 at the Library. The camp will be taught in a combination of Dutch and English and runs everyday from 10:00 – 16:00.

Kids ages 8-12 will transform into technology warriors who design, build and program robots and tech prototypes to fight climate change. They’ll work in pairs or small teams to complete a series of programming and robotics challenges in the morning and then computer-aided design (CAD) and digital fabrication activities in the afternoon.

Challenge themes will be:

  • Cleaning up plastic
  • Reducing air pollution
  • Making farming more efficient
  • Designing ‘smart’ transportation
  • Designing early warning systems for natural disasters

Deborah Carter, Founder of NewTechKids, says “Climate change is a major topic of public discussion, especially amongst children. We think it’s important to push the discussion further and encourage kids to start thinking about how they can use computer science and maker knowledge and technology tools to prototype their own solutions.”
