The world is receiving a major wake up call.
Hundreds of thousands of students from around the world have been marching to tackle climate change. Hashtags such as #FridayforFuture and #SchoolsStrike4Climate dominate social media.
If we are going to tackle problems like climate change, pollution, extreme weather and other environmental challenges, we need to change our habits and invent new technologies.
In recognition of the fact that children are motivated by sustainability, NewTechKids is organising a special 2019 May School Vacation bootcamp. From April 29 – May 3, kids ages 7-12 will join Division E (for ‘Environment’) to become eco-inventors who develop tech prototypes aimed at solving disasters which are actually happening around the world like plastics in the ocean, flooding and extreme weather.
Kids will learn about the effects of climate change before working in small teams to design, build and program tech prototypes using LEGO WeDo and LEGO Mindstorms robotics kits as well as art materials.
The bootcamp will take place at Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam near Centraal Station with daily classes from 10:00 – 13:00. Taught in a combination of Dutch and English, the bootcamp will be led by a professional teacher specialised in computer science, programming and art.
